Sample ID:94SJP42A
Station ID:94SJP42A
Latitude:62.43407107
Longitude:-143.1810236
Datum:NAD83
Date Sampled:1994-00-00
Sample Type 1:Lava
Sample Type 2:Flow
Field Lithology:Andesite
Text Description:
Approximately 15’ thick flow overlying 94SJP42B at Site 6. Fine-grained, hypocrystalline, intersertal, porphyritic with a matrix of brown glass, mesostasis, opaque and plagioclase. There is a dark patch that may represent a resorbed inclusion. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An44 - An55) occur in two size populations: 0.7-0.65 mm is less common and displays sieve textured zones and zoning; 0.3-0.05 mm is the dominant population and is rarely zoned or sieve textured. Clinopyroxene phenocryst are 0.35-0.1 mm. Olivine phenocrysts are 1.25-0.1 mm and a few have skeletal habits; opaque inclusions are common. 90.4% matrix, 3.5% plagioclase, 4.4% olivine, 1.1% clinopyroxene, 0.6% vesicles.
