Text Description: Flow overlying 93SJP62 at Site 4. The flow is a 20’ thick, massive outcrop that is more fractured than other flows in the section. Fine-grained, holocrystalline, intergranular, seriate porphyritic with a matrix of mesostasis, opaque and yellow alteration. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An32 - An48) are up to 2.0 mm and some have sieve textured cores or intermediate zones, complex zoning, a few grains display resorption embayments. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.95 mm and have clinopyroxene rims, and occasional opaque inclusions or sieve textured zones. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.35 mm. References: ![]() |
