Text Description:
At least 30’ thick flow at the base of unit nA1 at Site 3. Fine-grained, holocrystalline, intergranular, seriate porphyritic with a matrix of mesostasis, opaque, alteration and calcite. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An 29 - An59) are up to 1.2 mm and display complex zoning. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 1.1 mm and some have clinopyroxene rims, sieve textured zones, and a few have resorbed rims. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.1 mm. 47.3% matrix, 39.7% plagioclase, 0.2% clinopyroxene, 9.5% orthopyroxene, 0.9% alteration, 2.4% vesicles.
