Text Description:
Dike intruding into silicic material (93SJP15-18, Dome C) along Fossil Creek. Fine-grained, porphyritic to glomeroporphyritic, altered, holocrystalline with a matrix of alteration, opaque, feldspar, clinopyroxene, and cryptocrystalline material. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An26-An33) have two populations 2.5-0.1 mm displaying sieve textured zones, complex zoning, resorption embayments; and 0.1 - 0.25 mm that are needle-like. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are 1.25-0.45 mm. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are 0.7-0.35 mm and some are twinned. Olivine? phenocrysts are completely altered but have an olivine-like habit.
