Text Description: Flow from andesite package that appears to overlie the Dome D at Site 12. Flow is part of the brecciated unit. Fine grained, vesicular, holocrystalline, seriate porphyritic with a matrix of mesostasis, opaque, plagioclase, microlites, orthopyroxene and olivine. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An30-An59) are up to 2.75 mm, some cores are strongly sieve textured, oscillatory zoning is uncommon, and normal zoning is common. Olivine phenocrysts are up to 0.9 mm, may have opaque inclusions and sometimes are rimmed by small orthopyroxene crystals. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.9 mm. References: ![]() |
