Sample ID:93SJP32
Station ID:93SJP32
Latitude:62.43073742
Longitude:-143.0976918
Datum:NAD83
Date Sampled:1993-00-00
Sample Type 1:Lava
Sample Type 2:Dike
Field Lithology:Basaltic Andesite
Text Description:
Subvertical dike , about 1 m thick, trending N32E cutting through silicic material of Dome A at Site 2. The dike is cross-cut by dike 93SJP31. Fine-grained, seriate, intersertal, hypocrystalline with a matrix of brown glass, opaque, plagioclase microlites, clinopyroxene and yellow alteration. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An30-An58) are 1.6 - 0.05 mm, and some larger grains have complex zoning, sieve textured intermediate zones; most grains have little zoning. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are 1.0 - 0.05 mm and have poorly developed clinopyroxene rims. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are 0.8 - 0.05 mm, and twinning is common. Olivine phenocrysts are 0.9-0.1 mm.
