Sample ID:Merrill_1885_1
Station ID:Merrill_1885_1
Latitude:53.9272
Longitude:-168.0344
Datum:NAD83

Inferred to be a ejected volcanic block. Light gray slightly purplish, fine grained and porous groundmass, in which small feldspars and dark brown and green hornblende like crystals are readily distinguishable by the naked eye. The texture is uniform, the brown hornblende being the more variable constituent, a single crystal nearly half an inch in diameter was observed. The rock is rough to the touch and somewhat friable. Iron ore and augite are present. Apatite occurs sparingly and magnetite is present in poorly defined crystals.
