SAMPLE INFO : 85CNS03
Sample ID:85CNS03
Station ID:85CNS03
Latitude:61.2232
Longitude:-152.203085
Datum:NAD83
Date Sampled:1985-01-01
Sample Type 1:Lava
Sample Type 2:Block and Ash juvenile
Text Description:
Sample of juvenile block from block-and-as flows deposited on the debris avalanche formed during flank collapse of ancestral Mt. Spurr (“pyroclastic fan”; sample PF-03 of Nye and Turner (1990). From exposure high up in canyon immediately south of Crater Peak. Same small equant plag as S1 but big px megacrysts/phenocrysts/xenocryst clots. 15-20% cpx up to 5 mm diameter. Upper part of this canyon has a couple of b&a flows w/ avalanche debris of altered material between, perhaps vent clearing.

General Mineralogy Description:
Small equant plag but big px megacrysts/phenocrysts/xenocryst clots. 15-20% cpx up to 5 mm diameter.
