IMAGE 117841

Katie Mulliken (AK DGGS) and Pavel Izbekov (UAFGI) shovel peat to expose tephra (volcanic ash) layers north of Pavlof and Pavlof Sister volcanoes. Tephra studies help us understand the frequency and magnitude of volcanic eruptions, and help us improve volcanic ashfall hazard assessments.
