ALASKA VOLCANO OBSERVATORY DAILY UPDATE

SHISHALDIN VOLCANO (VNUM #311360)
54°45'19" N 163°58'16" W, Summit Elevation 9373 ft (2857 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

Strongly elevated surface temperatures were detected in satellite data from Shishaldin during the past 24 hours. No activity was observed from the volcano in web camera images over the past day. Seismicity remains above background levels. Low-level eruptive activity confined to the summit crater of the volcano likely continues.

CLEVELAND VOLCANO (VNUM #311240)
52°49'20" N 169°56'42" W, Summit Elevation 5676 ft (1730 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

No activity was observed in satellite views of Cleveland in the past day. Web camera views were obscured by clouds during the past 24 hours. No significant events in seismic or infrasound (air pressure) data were detected.

VENIAMINOF VOLCANO (VNUM #312070)
56°11'52" N 159°23'35" W, Summit Elevation 8225 ft (2507 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: NORMAL
Current Aviation Color Code: GREEN

Weakly elevated surface temperatures were detected at Veniaminof in satellite data in the past 24 hours. Web camera images show evidence of increased degassing and a low-level plume extending to the southwest from the summit region. Residents of Sand Point reported an egg smell on Tuesday, Feb. 24. Low level tremor has been detected in seismic data from Veniaminof over the past year. There have been no recent changes in seismic activity seen at Veniaminof.

AVO will continue to monitor the volcano closely.

AVO scientists conduct daily checks of earthquake activity at all seismically-monitored volcanoes, examine web camera and satellite images for evidence of airborne ash and elevated surface temperatures, and consult other monitoring data as needed.
