AVO VOLCANO ACTIVITY NOTIFICATION

ALASKA VOLCANO OBSERVATORY DAILY UPDATE
U.S. Geological Survey
Monday, September 9, 2013, 12:47 PM AKDT (Monday, September 9, 2013, 20:47 UTC)

VENIAMINOF VOLCANO (VNUM #312070)
56°11'52" N 159°23'35" W, Summit Elevation 8225 ft (2507 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

The eruption of Veniaminof continues, as evidenced by continuous seismic tremor and elevated surface temperatures in satellite views. Effusion and fountaining of lava from the active vent are likely ongoing as is low level ash emissions that are, at this time, restricted to an area within a few miles of the vent. Views of the volcano from the FAA web cam in Perryville have been obscured by clouds over the past 24 hours.

Ash fall from current activity is not expected to be significant and likely will be less than 1/16 inch, although areas within a few miles of the active cone could receive thicker amounts of ash fall. Information about volcanic ash and its potential effects can be found on the AVO web page (www.avo.alaska.edu).

CLEVELAND VOLCANO (VNUM #311240)
52°49'20" N 169°56'42" W, Summit Elevation 5676 ft (1730 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

Weakly elevated surface temperatures near the volcano's summit were seen in a satellite image on Saturday. AVO has received no other reports of activity at the volcano.
