AVO VOLCANO ACTIVITY NOTIFICATION

ALASKA VOLCANO OBSERVATORY DAILY UPDATE
U.S. Geological Survey
Sunday, September 1, 2013, 12:59 PM AKDT (Sunday, September 1, 2013, 20:59 UTC)

VENIAMINOF VOLCANO (VNUM #312070)
56°11'52" N 159°23'35" W, Summit Elevation 8225 ft (2507 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

Ongoing eruptive activity at the intracaldera cone of Veniaminof Volcano is producing elevated levels of continuous tremor. At this level of seismic activity, lava fountaining and ash emissions are likely occurring. No ash plumes have been observed in satellite images over the past 24 hours and local web camera views of the volcano have been obscured by clouds and fog. AVO has received no reports of ash fall on nearby communities, but this remains a possibility as the elevated levels of seismic activity continue.

If ash fall does occur, the amounts are not expected to be significant and likely will be less than 1/16 inch, although areas within a few miles of the intracaldera cone could receive thicker amounts of ash fall. Information about volcanic ash and its potential effects can be found on the AVO web page (www.avo.alaska.edu).

CLEVELAND VOLCANO (VNUM #311240)
52°49'20" N 169°56'42" W, Summit Elevation 5676 ft (1730 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

No anomalous activity at Cleveland Volcano was observed in satellite imagery during the past 24 hours. AVO has received no other reports of activity at the volcano.
