Following the explosive eruption that occurred today at 17:24 AKDT (01:24 UTC) and lasted about 20 minutes, seismicity as detected on neighboring islands has been quiet.

This event, though similar to previous ones in seismic intensity and duration, only produced a small cloud that extended about ten miles north of the volcano and had dissipated by about 18:15 AKDT (02:15 UTC). Since that time, we have seen no evidence of activity in satellite images.

Bogoslof volcano remains at a heightened state of unrest and in an unpredictable condition. Additional explosions producing high-altitude volcanic clouds could occur at any time. Low-level explosive activity that is below our ability to detect in our data sources may be occurring. These low-level explosions could pose a hazard in the immediate vicinity of the volcano.
