Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

The eruption of Bogoslof volcano that began at 1:41 UTC on February 4 (16:42, February 3 AKST) is continuing. A small volcanic ash plume has been observed in satellite data beginning at 02:00 UTC, extending towards the north for about 25 miles as of 2:45 UTC. Latest pilot reports indicate that the cloud is below 25,000 ft above sea level. Given the limited extent of the volcanic ash cloud, the Aviation Color Code remains at ORANGE and the Alert Level remains at WATCH. We will consider upgrading these alert levels should the activity continue and/or intensify.
