AVO VOLCANO ACTIVITY NOTIFICATION

ALASKA VOLCANO OBSERVATORY STATUS REPORT
U.S. Geological Survey
Thursday, April 30, 2009, 2:19 PM AKDT (Thursday, April 30, 2009, 22:19 UTC)

REDOUBT VOLCANO (VNUM #313030)
60°29'7" N 152°44'38" W, Summit Elevation 10197 ft (3108 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

The eruption of Redoubt volcano continues. Seismic activity remains elevated and has changed little over the past 24 hours. Satellite views show a persistent thermal anomaly consistent with an actively growing lava dome. Occasional small rock avalanches from the lava dome are producing very minor ash emissions in the immediate vicinity of the volcano. Web camera views show a diffuse steam and gas plume rising to about the summit of the volcano and drifting northwest. AVO has two field crews working at the volcano today.

Additional explosive events producing ash clouds, ash fall, and mudflows are possible and can occur with little or no warning. AVO is maintaining 24/7 operations in order to quickly detect renewed significant explosive activity and other hazardous phenomena.

CLEVELAND VOLCANO (VNUM #311240)
52°49'20" N 169°56'42" W, Summit Elevation 5676 ft (1730 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

AVO received no reports of activity at Cleveland during the past 24 hours. Recent satellite views have been cloudy.
