AVO VOLCANO ACTIVITY NOTIFICATION

ALASKA VOLCANO OBSERVATORY STATUS REPORT
U.S. Geological Survey
Tuesday, March 3, 2009, 12:31 PM AKST (Tuesday, March 3, 2009, 21:31 UTC)

REDOUBT VOLCANO (VNUM #313030)
60°29'7" N 152°44'38" W, Summit Elevation 10197 ft (3108 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

Unrest at Redoubt Volcano continues. No eruption has occurred. Seismicity continues to be dominated by small discrete earthquakes. There have not been any significant earthquake swarms in the past 24 hours. The volcano has been mostly obscured by clouds in web camera and satellite images over the past day.

OKMOK VOLCANO (VNUM #311290)
53°23'49" N 168°9'58" W, Summit Elevation 3520 ft (1073 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

AVO raised the Aviation Color Code to YELLOW and the Volcanic Alert Level to ADVISORY for Okmok volcano yesterday evening due to a series of short bursts of volcanic tremor that occurred over a 24 hour period. Over the past 12 hours, these tremor bursts have mostly ceased. Clouds have obscured views of the volcano, however there is no evidence that an eruption has occurred. This increase in seismic activity does not necessarily indicate that an eruption will occur, or that an eruption is likely.

CLEVELAND VOLCANO (VNUM #311240)
52°49'20" N 169°56'42" W, Summit Elevation 5676 ft (1730 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

AVO has received no reports of activity at Cleveland in the past 24 hours. Nothing unusual has been observed in mostly cloudy satellite images over the past day. Low-level ash emissions may occur with little or no warning.
