GREAT SITKIN VOLCANO (VNUM #311120)
52°4'35" N 176°6'39" W, Summit Elevation 5709 ft (1740 m)

Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake occurred at 08:59:55.004 UTC, July 15, 2020 about 55 miles (90 km) west-northwest of Great Sitkin volcano. The earthquake was about 5 miles (8.5 km) deep and registered clearly on AVO seismic networks in the region including those on Great Sitkin, Kanaga, and Tanaga volcanoes. The earthquake does not appear to be related to volcanic activity and is most likely tectonic in origin.

It is possible but not certain that this earthquake could influence the seismicity that has been occurring at Great Sitkin volcano. AVO will be monitoring the situation closely and will respond accordingly should conditions at Great Sitkin or any other nearby volcano change appreciably.

Magnitude 5.3 earthquake about 55 miles west of Great Sitkin. Likely tectonic in origin.
