COOK INLET VOLCANOES
Seismic activity at Spurr, Augustine, Redoubt and Iliamna
volcanoes remains at normal levels. Five volcanoes of Cook Inlet were included on a reconnaisance gas flight this week. Sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide emissions from Crater Peak (Spurr), Redoubt, Iliamna, Augustine, and Douglas volcanoes are at background levels. Weak condensate plumes reflecting normal hydrothermal activity were present near the summits of each volcano.
The Alaska Volcano Observatory continues to seismically
monitor Spurr, Augustine, Redoubt and Iliamna volcanoes.
We maintain a computerized alarm system that is capable of
notifying AVO seismologists during non business hours,
should unusual seismic activity occur.
