The FAA received several pilot reports this week of steam plumes carrying small amounts of ash above Kanaga Volcano. The plumes reached about 5000-7000 feet ASL and drifted generally southeast. Subsequent analysis of AVHRR satellite images, however, could not confirm the presence of ash. Poor weather precluded any ground observations of Kanaga from Adak this week.
low clouds in Port Heiden prevented any observation of Veniaminof this week. No pilot reports of continuing activity were logged by FAA.

Seismicity at Spurr, Augustine, Redoubt and Iliamna
volcanoes remains at normal levels.
The Alaska Volcano Observatory continues to seismically
monitor Spurr, Augustine, Redoubt and Iliamna volcanoes. We
maintain a computerized alarm system that is capable of
notifying AVO seismologists during non business hours should
unusual seismic activity occur.
