OMI composite image from NOAA showing the extent of the sulfur dioxide gas cloud from the eruption of Okmok Volcano imaged at about 12:00 PM AKDT on July 17, 2008. The large red mass shows the location of the high altitude sulfur dioxide cloud from the main explosive phase on 12 July, 2008. OMI data acquired during this time over Okmok show no sulfur dioxide emitting from the volcano.
