03:38: Seismic event between 03:35 and 03:38 recorded at RDN, RDTZ, and RED; hint of activity at SPU.
03:53: Seismic events at RDN at a rate of 1 per minute, several for about 1 minute duration; lasts until 04:11.
05:49: Increase in activity at RDN.
06:30: Onset of seismic event, lasts 10 minutes at SPU. A "boom" similar to a vehicle backfiring heard by some DROF crewmen. Last major explosive event of December; plume to 9+ km; ash to E; moderate flooding.
07:32+: Pilot reports of ash plume over Redoubt between 28,000 and 31,000 feet, moving ENE.
09:00+: Reconnaissance of Drift River by DROF crews reveal receding water level in the river from an early morning flood event, probably triggered during the 06:30 seismic activity. By 09:30, water level had lowered about 6 feet from the high-water mark.
09:29+: Redoubt obscured by clouds but pilot reports indicate "ash clouds" rising to between 16,000 ft. Lower portion consisted of turbulent gray (ash) clouds. Volcano totally obscured by clouds.
14:00: Crew shuts down and evacuates DROF, ashfall continuing.
