The volcano was obscured by bad weather last week. An AVHRR satellite image at 1501 ADT (2301 UT) Thursday showed a possible steam (?) plume about 50 km long blowing NW of Mt. Veniaminof. A hot spot on the AVHRR image was about 15 degrees Celsius warmer than the surrounding features, which are probably ice and snow near the summit.

Seismic activity at Spurr, Redoubt, Iliamna, and Augustine
volcanoes remains at normal background levels.
The Alaska Volcano Observatory continues to seismically
monitor Spurr, Redoubt, Iliamna, and Augustine volcanoes.
We maintain a computerized alarm system that is capable of
notifying AVO seismologists during non-business hours
should unusual seismic activity occur.
