COOK INLET VOLCANOES
Seismic activity at Spurr, Redoubt, Iliamna, and Augustine
volcanoes remains at normal background levels. Today is the anniversary of the 1992 eruption of Crater Peak vent on Mt. Spurr volcano that dusted Anchorage with 3 mm of ash. Aerial observations on Wednesday showed no sign of activity.
The Alaska Volcano Observatory continues to seismically
monitor Spurr, Redoubt, Iliamna, and Augustine volcanoes.
We maintain a computerized alarm system that is capable of
notifying AVO seismologists during non-business hours
should unusual seismic activity occur.
