Residents of Perryville report continued steaming over the summit caldera of Veniaminof volcano this morning. Earlier in the week, a "hot" spot was detected on several AVHRR images of the volcano. Veniaminof has been the site
of a low-level eruption since July, 1993; steam clouds
generated by the interaction of lava with ice and snow and
occasional low-energy ash bursts may continue for some time.
