Poor weather prevented and visual observation of Veniaminof this week. AVO received a report of possible ash emission from the intracaldera cone on August 16.
Weather clouds also obscured Kanaga volcano this week. The Federal Aviation Administration received no pilot reports of eruption. AVHRR satellite images indicated a steam plume extending approximately 50 km south of Kanaga at 1247 ADT, Thursday.
COOK INLET VOLCANOES
Seismic activity at Spurr, Augustine, Redoubt and Iliamna
volcanoes remains at normal levels.
The Alaska Volcano Observatory continues to seismically
monitor Spurr, Augustine, Redoubt and Iliamna volcanoes.
We maintain a computerized alarm system that is capable of
notifying AVO seismologists during non business hours
should unusual seismic activity occur.
