Observers in Perryville could see Veniaminof early this week and noted a small steam plume over the volcano. Poor weather conditions for the past several days have obscured the volcano. There were no pilot reports or satellite indications of activity at Veniaminof.
Weather clouds also obscured Kanaga volcano this week. There have been no reports of eruptive activity at Kanaga since August 21. On August 20, a light ashfall occurred on the island and community of Adak. AVO received small samples of this ash collected by U.S. Navy and U.S. Fish and Wildlife personnel. Preliminary analysis suggests the ash is broadly similar in composition to other known tephras and lavas from Kanaga.
