Okmok Volcano: 53.4oN, 168.17oW, 760 m (2,500 ft)
The current eruptive phase at Okmok Volcano, which began February
13, is continuing at a relatively low level. The eruption could intensify
at any time, and lava flows, as well as ash emission, may occur
without warning for a period of weeks to months. Okmok is not
monitored seismically and is not assigned a color code.
Okmok is on the eastern end of Umnak Island, 75 miles southwest of
Dutch Harbor. The nearest settlements are Nikolski (45 miles
W) and former Fort Glenn military base (10 miles E).
