Alaska Volcanoes Update

Okmok Volcano: 53.4°N, 168.17°W; 760 m (2,500 ft)
Eruptive activity at Okmok, which began February 13, is continuing,
and hot lava flows within the caldera are suggested by satellite
imagery. Okmok Volcano is not monitored seismically and is not
assigned a color code. Based on past eruptive history, lava flows
and ash emission may continue to occur without additional warning
for a period of weeks to months.
Okmok is on the eastern end of Umnak Island, 75 miles southwest
of Dutch Harbor. The nearest settlements are Nikolski (45 miles
W) and former Fort Glenn military base (10 miles E).
