Seismic activity is monitored in real time at 20 volcanoes*
in Alaska. Some of these volcanoes may currently display
anomalous seismicity, but they are not considered to be at
a dangerous level of unrest.
Spurr, Redoubt, Iliamna, Augustine, Snowy, Griggs, Katmai,
Novarupta, Trident, Mageik, Martin, Aniakckak, Pavlof, Dutton, Akutan, Shishaldin, Isanotski, Fisher, Westdahl, and Makushin volcanoes are all at or near normal levels of background seismicity.
*As of today, Snowy, Isanotski, Fisher, and Westdahl volcanoes are added to the list of seismically monitored Alaska volcanoes. Installation of seismic networks at or near these volcanoes was completed during the summer of 1998 and several months of baseline data have now been acquired.
