Dome-building eruptive activity continues at Augustine Volcano. Occasional hot block-and-ash flows, rock avalanches, and rock falls from the summit lava dome and lava flows continue to occur. Small, dilute ash clouds resulting from these processes are likely confined to the immediate vicinity of the volcano. During very high wind conditions, minor amounts of ash may be carried longer distances.
This activity will likely continue, perhaps intermittently, over the next several weeks or months. Brief, energetic explosions of ash can occur with little or no warning. Such explosions could produce significant amounts of ash and drifting ash clouds that could rise more than 25,000 feet above sea level.

AVO is currently unable to receive seismic data from the Veniaminof network. Until AVO staff can visit the site to repair the problem, the volcano will be monitored using web camera, satellite images, and information from Perryville residents and pilot reports.
Clear satellite view of the volcano late yesterday showed no unusual activity. Today, web camera and satellite views are obscured by clouds and snowfall. We have received no further reports of possible incandescence from Perryville residents.
Intermittent and sudden production of short-lived, very small-volume steam and ash bursts from the intracaldera cone has been typical of this volcano over the past few years. There are no indications that a larger eruption is imminent. Ash clouds and fallout from these events are not likely to extend beyond the caldera rim, but could pose a hazard to people and low-flying aircraft in the vicinity of the active cone.
